Concept & Background
This illustration was created as the hero image for the 2025 season at Grange Park Opera in Surrey and appears on the cover of the season programme.
The artwork presents a stylised aerial view of the opera house grounds, including the historic walled gardens, orchard, nearby manor house and the opera house itself, a five-tier theatre nestled in woodland and modelled on La Scala in Milan. The drawing combines an accurate layout of the estate with a deliberately flattened perspective influenced by David Hockney and mid-20th-century children’s book illustration. The result functions both as a detailed artwork and as a visual overview of the opera grounds.
